The New York Times does it again.
The “liberal paper of record” just can’t seem to help themselves. They continue to bend over backwards to sooth the ruffled feathers of Republicans and Trumpists, apparently terrified that they might lose a few more subscribers.
This morning’s headline for their daily e-mail update as a case in point. A CDC About-Face is the lede, implying that the health agency is correcting a blunder with their new guidance on masks for vaccinated people. And though there are a few nuances in the subsequent article, the gist is exactly that: smacking around the CDC for erring on the side of caution with mask recommendations in the midst of a pandemic that has killed 600,000 Americans (or, probably, closer to a million). They go on to quote Susan feakin’ Collins without quoting a single reality-based Democratic leader. And cite a number of smug scientific pundits collectively saying ‘it’s about time’.
The CDC got some things wrong; they made egregious blunders early on in the pandemic. But they have been trying hard to keep Americans from killing each other with this lethal virus, and the Times continues to stir the pot of science denialism and skepticism toward genuine scientific authority with this kind of article.
Shame on them.
